Fire Prevention Fire Marshal James Rivard heads the Prevention Division with a capable staff of State Certified Firesafety Inspectors and Fire Prevention Specialist. The Firesafety Inspectors are responsible for Fire & Life Safety inspections of all commercial occupancies, coordination of apartment and condominium inspections, safety inspections for special events, code inquiries and evacuation plans review. The main focus of the Fire Prevention Specialist is Public Education and our Fire Safety Trailer. The Safety Trailer provides children with the opportunity to learn interactively about fire safety. The children are taken on a tour through a kitchen, living room, and bedroom with makeshift fire hazards they are given the chance to pick out. The end of the tour is highlighted with a safe, non-toxic smoke being systematically vented into one or all of the rooms. The children are able to practice crawling low in smoke and learn to use the 2nd way out when the door is heated. The Safety Trailer is utilized throughout Collier County with other fire districts. Fire Prevention also provides safety classes, fire drills, apparatus displays, fire extinguisher training, fire station tours, puppet shows for fire safety, courtesy fire inspections of private residences and a “Special Events Rescue Vehicle”.
